Appalachian Journeys

My journey started in 85 along the banks of the Tug fork river. Growing up in eastern Kentucky coal fields. I roamed the hollers and mountains growing up and always had a passion for nature and wildlife. Blessed to know and meet some of the most humble and kind hearted folks from these mountains. Our story isn’t always pretty but we managed to survive the hard times and push through the barriers of a crumbling coal industry.

I’d like to welcome you along my journey through life in the Appalachian coal fields. I will be posting one journey in depth on here weekly. Be sure to share and check back for the next installment pf Aces Appalachian Journey. This weeks image was captured during a divine sunrise over the old Warfield train bridge located in a quant little town of Warfield Kentucky. Last train car to cross this bridge was the caboose in the early 1990`s which still sits idly by for visitors to enjoy a glimpse into our rail lines past. Below the bridge a boat ramp to the Tug fork river snaking into the flowing water providing easy access to enjoy all summer long. Many locals from years past tell stories of meeting up on this bridge and swimming and climbing all around it for a thrill. Once a major gateway for the transportation of coal mined in the area it now sits abandoned and closed forever. The rails covered in rust as the ties crumble to the years of weather. Almost as a steel statue to the remembrance of our culture and heritage in coal country. I reminder for me personally that all things fade in time, no matter the gravity they hold or connect.

Until next time Be Kind to one another
